                                  Population

The very first inhabitants of Silhouette were escaped slaves fled from Mahé in the late seventeen hundreds.

Around 1800 the first settlers arrived on Silhouette. In 1827 there were 21 of them on the Island, with their 112 slaves, and also 1 freed slave. In its short history  from about 200 years Silhouette's population, starting from zero encreased till more than 1000 in the 19 hundreds, spread all over the island. Beside LaPasse other communities were founded, like Anse Lascars, Anse Grande Barbe, Pointe Etienne and Anse Mondon. In the middle of the 20th century the population started to diminish. All villages were left except La Passe. The actual number of inhabitants is 135, all living in La Passe, with a small exception for Grand Barbe, 4 people (3 men and 1 woman) and Anse mondon (2 people).
